Final Part II
1. The first thing I like about my new found media literacy is that I notice the impact that media has. I always knew it influenced people but now I understand the movement it caused. I realized it is more than a source of entertainment, it is used as an outlet, in a positive and negative way. I never realized how many people really use media in a negative way. I understand that people get so...

I was sitting in my room excited for the new episode of LOST thats on tonight and was thinking about why I was so excited for a fictional TV show. I realized that theres no deep meaning behind people loving a TV show, its just purely enjoyable. Why not escape for an hour and try to figure out meanings to a show thats already pre-determinded? Also, why not watch those reality shows with people...

The first ad is a perfect example of how advertisements are trying to push a certain image. “We have a hot new look…you can too.” This ad for the pill that will make you have the new hot pill, is attempting to make you believe that you will have the body of the guy in the ad. The use of the word Xtreme is also trying to make you believe that its better than the other fat...

In response to the incident in Florida with the teenage girls beating another girl, I think it is a little extreme to blame the media. Although I agree that things like MySpace could be dangerous for immature teenagers like these girls in the video. However, I think that these girls are completely responsible for the acts they committed. Some articles stated that the victim said bad things...

The Century of Self
This video showed how Edward Bernays mastered the art of marketing. He figured out the wants and desires of the targeted group and manipulated them into consuming his current product. Bernays knew at the time that women had a desire for more freedom and wanted to be taken more seriously. Through advertising, Bernays convinced women that smoking cigarettes would make men take them more seriously. I...

Week One Writing: Movie Posters
Although they are constantly surrounding me, I have never taken a close look at movie posters. I usually glance at them to see the title and who are the actors or actresses that are in it. I leave it up to a preview on T.V. or in the movie theatre to tell me what the movie is about. However, now that I’ve been asked to look at things more closely, I noticed how interesting some movie...
